Getting to know Shenzhen nightlife

It's a dilemma as there is so much to do. Perhaps you like live music or a traditional chinese show and dancing. On the other hand there are karoki bars , massage parlours to provide a little different entertainment and of course lots of Shenzhen Girls .

Enjoying rock music in a bar until 3am in the morning and the choice of American or Thai food could appeal to you if you go to Shekou.

Listening to Jazz and generally relaxing may very well be your scene at the wall street club in the Marco Polo hotel however it is too quiet for me.

When out at night stay safe and take some sensible precautions by keeping you money on a inside belt or pocket as pickpockets can be on the prowl depending where you go. Leave your passport in the hotel safe and maybe split you money by stuffing some of it in a different pocket or maybe in your shoe.

Plan your night out by deciding where to go and travel as a group, usually your host company will organize your night out and you will not have to make the arrangements except to go out and enjoy yourself.

X-TA-SEA Sports Bar

The bar is inside the Munghua Ship, SeaWorld Square,Shekou and as it turned out it is a very lively place at the weekends. It's not a huge area but there is a great atmosphere inside and almost everything you would want on a night out.

I love this place and the food is not bad either. It's real american style food with burgers, buffalo wings and some real meaty sandwiches.

Plan a night out here as a live resident rock band plays Wednesday through Saturday night, I was there on Saturday night and it was quite full and the music was good.

It's a really safe place and you can't go wrong here as the prices are reasonable. Nothing sleazy or unusual going on here. It is this the type of Shenzhen nightlife you would enjoy after a long day at work?

The Terrace

The terrace is also in Seaworld Square,Shekou and if you like Thai food and Rock Music then you should come here. It's above Starbucks and it also has a typical american food menu.

Come here for the live music and Thai food, the food is somewhat like the Thai food back home. Hot and spicy.....just the way I like it.

If you happen to visit maybe on Monday night when the band is not playing you will enjoy cheap booze with two for the price of one.

At the weekends it's a crowded busy place and a real party atmosphere, the noise, the food and the drink will make your night so come early and be sure to get a good table. As Shekou is 40 minutes from downtown Shenzhen you need to allow enough time to get here and be prepared to be home late.

The terrace should fit into your Shenzhen nightlife schedule and it is worth the time it takes to get there but if your hotel is in the Shekou area then you can't miss it.

Traditional Chinese show

I was brought out by my host company to Tangxia in the dongguan area to this wonderful show. If you decide that Shenzhen nightlife should include an event like this then you will find a similar show closer to you in Shenzhen.

The show had a mixture of dance and singing although all the songs sounded very similar. There was a fantastic acrobatic troupe who were running on spinning wheels doing unbelievable dangerous stunts....brilliant.

The costumes and choreography was very good, this is not my thing but nevertheless I was suitably impressed.

A funny part of the show involved girls running across floating platforms in a pool of water beside the stage. The object was to run from one of the pool to the other without falling, of course most of them fell into the water and that was part of the fun.

Very good night with plenty of beer and a good laugh. If this type of show appeals to you then find out what's on in Shenzhen and plan it into your Shenzhen nightlife schedule.
